Why do you need a professionally-done website?

We can say it any number of ways. Let's try just three.

Nine-year-old girls and their kittens have websites. Dogs have websites. Prospective customers/members/patients--whoever you are interested in--will judge your organization, and you, by the website. Will you look like the nine-year-old or the kitten? Would you rather look like a professional person presenting a professional organization? If yes, then you need a professional to take care of it for you.

The web is like an ocean. There are literally billions of websites out there. Most of them get little or no traffic because they were not built to have traffic. What good is a website that no one can find? You need a professional to have a chance.

Suppose your competition presents a website to the public--a really well-done website that makes the competition look like professionals. That will lure business, or members, away from your organization to theirs--bet on it. Why don't you be the one who does it first? You need a professional to do that. Or, you could look like our friend to the right...you choose.

Finally, let's ask a question. If you want a heart-bypass operation, who do you want to do it? Will you call the kid down the street who took a semester of biology to do the job? Dr. Clown? Or will you call a professional?

There are two basic types of website: informational websites and eStore websites.

The Informational website is like an extension of your business card. In fact, the simplest informational website is a "Business Card Website"--a single-page website that is, at its heart, just an oversized business card.

Your domain should always be on your business card and mentioned in all of your advertising efforts. This kind of website tells far more about you, your organization, your goals, your specialties, etc., than can ever be on your business card or, more than likely, than you can ever put in your advertising. Hence, this type of website serves two purposes. First, if someone hears about you or gets your business card and they want to know more about you, they can simply go to the website to get the information. Secondly, someone looking for an organization like yours can find you on the internet--if the site is properly designed and maintained.

Let's not stop right there, though. One great thing an informational website can do is let you give other forms of information to your prospective customer, patient, member, etc. For example, doctors, dentists, and other professionals can let a new patient download your initial-check-in registration forms so that they can bring them to the office all filled out and ready to go. Financial advisors can let the customer download forms to fill in their goals, holdings, etc. The list is nearly endless and most organizations can benefit from this kind of usage.

We wouldn't recommend this kind of picture
If you are a professional, a simple, small picture of you can say volumes to the prospective customer--it should be a good picture, because they will learn from it your sex, your approximate age, and your color. They will make a general assessment of whether or not you are someone who looks competent in your profession. First impressions can be makers or breakers--how's yours. But don't stop there--what about the key members of your staff--here's the way to let the patient/customer know who to talk to about certain things--billing questions, for example.
