IHS, Incorporated--How To Setup Your Email Account in Navigator 7.0

This entire document and all related pages are ©2000-2006 by IHS, Incorporated.

One or more email accounts and their passwords will be supplied to you by IHS personnel. In the examples that follow, you will always use the email account you are working on to replace the terms "YourEmail" or "YourAddress" or "YourEmailAddress." In addition, you wil use your own domain, e.g., IHSsoftware.com is our domain, to replace the term "YourDomain.xxx" wherever it appears. NOTE: All of the entries in this exercise are case-sensitive, meaning that you must type upper-case and lower-case letters exactly as they were given you by IHS or it just won't work. The entire thing will be done in carefully meastured steps as follows:

3. In the upper text box on this screen, enter you name and company name as you want it to display when you send a message, i.e., Wallace Allison at IHS, Incorporated. What you enter is free-form and entirely up to you, but do manage to keep it short and have it Identify you to your email's recipients. In the lower text box, use your email address and your domain name and enter them as shown with the at-sign (@) between them. Be sure to check your typing before you hit the NEXT button on this window.

12. Netscape Navigator will always try to use only one outgoing email server (the one you already have), its default, for all outgoing email. If this suits your fancy, you're finished. If it does not, follow these steps:

  1. click Outgoing Server in the leftmost pane.
  2. Enter your server name as "mail." followed by YourDomain, e.g., mail.ihssoftware.com. Remember, case counts.
  3. Being sure that "use name and password" is checked as shown, enter the full email address as given you by IHS.
  4. Be sure that "Never" is selected for SSL as indicated in the illustration.

Click "OK" when you are finished here.

As Microsoft says, Congratulations. You have just setup your email account and you're back at the email screen. Click on the your new account and click to read mail. The first time through, you will be asked for the password that IHS gave you--enter it, remember that case counts, and you should be into your email account. You should see no errors. If you do have errors, the chances are that you have mistyped either the Domain Name, the email address, or the password. Please go back to the EDIT> Mail Accounts and News Groups> screens and check for this plus re-enter your password. Then try this step again. If you still have errors, give IHS a call and we'll see what's going on.
