IHS, Incorporated--How To Setup Your Email Account in OutlookXP

One or more email accounts and their passwords will be supplied to you by IHS personnel. In the examples that follow, you will always use the email account you are working on to replace the terms "YourEmail" or "YourEmailAddress." In addition, you wil use your own domain, e.g., IHSsoftware.com is our domain, to replace the term "YourDomain.xxx" wherever it appears. NOTE: All of the entries in this exercise are case-sensitive, meaning that you must type upper-case and lower-case letters exactly as they were given you by IHS or it just won't work. The entire thing will be done in carefully meastured steps as follows:

- Start OutlookXP® and select Accounts on the Tools menu. This will bring up a screen that looks something like the one shown above. Click on the option to add a new email address and then click the Next button. This will bring up the next screen:
Click on the POP3 option and then click the Next button. This will bring up the next screen:
- This screen is where you will do most of your work. In 3 boxes, type in (in lower-case only) your full email address (name@yourdomain.com). Click the "Remember password" check box. Be sure the SPA box is unchecked. in bot the incoming and outgoing mail server boxes, type in "mail." (no quotes) followed by "yourdomain.com" (no quotes). Type your password exactly as it was given to you in the password box. Your dialog box should now look something like this:
Finally, click the More Settings Button. to take you to the next screen:
- Verify that your email address (all lower-case) in full is shown both as the mail account and as the reply e-mail. Enter your organization name (if desired) in the Organization box.
Click on the Outgoing Server tab to move to the next screen:

On this screen check that "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication." Verify that the email address is shown in full. Click to "Remember password" Leave other check boxes unchecked as shown above.
- Click on the Connections screen if needed and setup your connection information. (Since this varies so much by the installation, we cannot detail this for you here.)
- Leave the settings on the "Advanced" tab alone. Click OK and you are finished.
